The rains that pounded Kerala over the last few weeks have eased, and flood waters are slowly receding. During the difficult time, many people came forward to offer help. Some opened up their homes, while others gave away a huge chunk of inventory so the affected could get relief.
As people leave relief camps and return to flood-battered homes to begin the long process of rebuilding their lives, there are some who have endeavoured to show their deep appreciation for the generosity that they received.
A case in point are the people who sought shelter at the Kongorpilly Govt Higher Secondary School, in the Koonanmaavu district. The fourth floor of the school, was sheltering 1200 people, before they were moved to a relief centre. However, before they moved, the occupants left the premises in a spotless condition, as a gesture of thanks.

A Facebook post, which includes a photograph of a room in the school which was used by the displaced people, has gone viral on social media. In the photograph, you can see the spotless floor, which is so clean that the windows shine off the scrubbed surface. Not a single packet of any wrapper or garbage can be seen, and it is extremely hard to believe that the room was once occupied to the brim.

The post even quotes one of the occupants, who said, “This place was home for me for last four days. How can I leave it dirty ? We keep our home clean right?”
