Heavy rains in Kerala have caused an unbelievable amount of destruction. Currently, about eight districts in the state are under red alert, and 29 people have lost their lives due to the floods.
Additionally, the shutters of over 20 dams, including Idukki’s Cheruthoni dam, had to be lifted which has resulted in many areas getting further submerged.
The opening of the Cheruthoni dam saw people running helter-skelter to save their lives, trying to find a safe place to stay till the rains ceased and the water levels went down.
Even as people were trying to be safe, the opening of the dam would result in the submerging of a bridge that a few people were crossing.

In this situation, a video shot by a News 18 journalist has gone viral, where a rescue official who was later identified as Kanayya Kumar, is seen running across the bridge with a child in his arms.
Kanayya rescued the child just in time, as according to local reports, the bridge was completely submerged only a few minutes after this incident.
