On a train journey, throwing the empty bottles and cans out the window after use seems like the reasonable thing to do. Because what more can you do with those useless bottles, right?

This artist will prove you wrong.

An official with the SSE Drawing Section at the Palakkad Railways, C H Anil Kumar wants to show passengers how he can make their ‘waste’ from the train useful.

An awful amount of waste produced from the train litters railway tracks.

To curb this, the Palakkad Railways officials decided to do something about it.

The innovative idea of recycling this waste is part of the Railways’ cleanliness drive, in which Anil accumulates waste materials like bottles, cans and containers, and turns them into utility items.

Just a single plastic bottle can be used to create three things – a flower, a flower vase and a pen holder; he told Mathrubhumi.

An exhibition organised recently at the Divisional Office in Palakkad displayed Anil’s art made using plastic carry bags, paper plates, paper cups, aluminium foil covers etc., for which he won accolades.

Anil is also interested in painting. His exhibition held in Ernakulam has paintings made by scratching them with a blade. Hence, he called the exhibition Sratchography. He is now looking forward to another exhibition which will be displayed at all railway stations under Palakkad division.
